Today is the Feast of St. Therese of Lisieux.
Her relics are touring in the U.K. currently. Click here to read an earlier blog posting with lots of links to information about her.
The photo of "The Little Flower" above isn't as fancy as many that I've posted in the past. It was taken with an iPhone without all of the lights on in the church today.
As part of the celebration of her feast, we gave her a good washing and cleaning. Climbing up the ladder and washing her with rose scented cleaners, it reminded me of a quote from her.
"Always keep lifting your foot to climb the ladder of holiness, and do not imagine that you can mount even the first step. All God asks of you is good will."
St. Therese realized that as a Carmelite nun, she would never get the opportunity to perform great deeds. She said,
"Love proves itself by deeds, so how am I to show my love? Great deeds are forbidden me. The only way I can prove my love is by scattering flowers and these flowers are every little sacrifice, every glance and word, and the doing of the least actions for love."
Please consider doing some small act to help at our parish, whether that is giving a day to help clean up inside with the Ladies Altar Society, spending a Holy Hour this First Friday in Valentin Hall Chapel, or perhaps making a donation to help our Bereavement group that provides meals for families who have lost a loved one.
