Wonderful Parish Picnic

What a beautiful day it was last week for our parish picnic. To see many more photos from the picnic, click this link.

It was great to see so many come out and enjoy the Church grounds and each other's company. Much work went into putting everything together, I want to thank all who helped set up, cook, and clean up. Particularly, I want to thank Dirk and Dee Boudreaux for heading up the organization of the picnic and our office staff and maintenance staff who put in extra hours to help things run smoothly. Finally, several local businesses and organizations helped us by providing equipment and food, and we sincerely appreciate their generosity.

They are:

  • Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz
  • Tony Chachere’s
  • Greg Doucet
  • Evangeline Downs
  • Lafond Ardoin Funeral Home
  • Knights of Columbus - St. Landry Council
  • St. Landry Church Altar Society
  • Catholic Daughters of America - St. Landry Court
  • B&D Marble and Granite
  • Kane Hebert and Fun Jumps Unlimited

Homily for Pentecost Sunday

Homilies are now available to download and listen to!

As part of our answering the challenge of the Holy Father to go out and evangelize utilizing new technologies, we're now offering the homily each week for download. Clicking the link to the homily should download it and automatically start it playing in whatever music player your computer is set up with.

On the technical side, the file sizes are about 5 megs which means it may a minute or two to download on slower Internet connections. It is also an MP3 formatted file which means that these are essentially podcasts. Don't worry if all the technical words don't mean much to you. It means we're using the latest in technology in order to make sure our church parish can reach the most people.

In the past few weeks, we've improved the quality of the recordings. Please let us know if you like the new sound.

The current week's homily is available on a link on the front page of the website next to the link for the current week's bulletin. On the page with the prior bulletins, the corresponding homily will be sitting side by side with its bulletin. We started on the anniversary of the start of the Catholic Church, Pentecost Sunday --- three years ago. This week, Pentecost Sunday, is our one hundred and ninetieth! podcast to be posted. The homily is given by Father James Brady.

So, take a listen and let us know what you think. Click here to download the Pentecost Sunday homily from St. Landry Catholic Church, Opelousas, Louisiana.

Parish Picnic - This Sunday!

Our entire parish community will have its annual Easter celebration at our parish picnic next weekend after the 10am Mass. It will last until about 2pm and will take place in the yard between the rectory and Valentin Hall. This is the only time of the year when our entire parish community gets together to have a meal and socialize as one group. Last year, the picnic was a great success and it was wonderful to see our children enjoying themselves on fun jumps and slides and playing games, while at the same time adults of all ages socialized and enjoyed good food and music. The only thing you may need to bring is a picnic chair or blanket, but we will have tables and chairs under tents, just as we did last year. I hope you can come!!

  Father Brady

Steubenville South Youth Rally and Mother's Day

I am pleased to announce that a group of our high school students will be making the trip to the Steubenville South Youth Rally in Alexandria the weekend of June 22-24. We have a group of about 15 making the trip, and they will be having various fundraisers between now and then. The first fundraiser is a bake sale this weekend after all the masses for Mother's Day. We got a late start in the planning of the trip, so please stop by and see if anything might appeal to you for a Mother's Day treat.

Of course, Happy Mother's Day to all our Mothers!! Know of my admiration and appreciation for you and all you do!!

And please enjoy the photo down below ... Flowers Before His Majesty. God Bless!

Fr. James Brady
