The Pastor’s Corner
Before I leave for vacation this afternoon, I just want to update you on the Sanctuary Campaign and the progress of the work. The work on our two bathrooms has been completed and they are now updated with new tile and appointments. Many have remarked to me that they had been coming to church here for years and did not know that we had two bathrooms! The second bathroom is around the corner from the outside door to the inside bathroom. The inside bathroom is now much more handicapped friendly after having installed a ramp to get in the outside door, installing a larger inside door, and mounting bars inside the bathroom. In order to make more room in that bathroom, we moved the baby changing station to the outside bathroom. The door on the outside bathroom is still a bit tough to fully open and close, but we have a new door on order that will be installed in the near future. The bathrooms are now all properly marked and we thank Keith Bono for providing the signs. I think the bathrooms turned out beautifully and the work was definitely a needed update. From now on, both bathrooms will be opened during weekend Masses.
Insofar as the new altar and the flooring are concerned, installation of the altar will begin on Monday, August 3. It should be completed by the end of the week. On Sunday, August 9 Bishop Jarrell is going to come and consecrate the altar at the 10 am Mass. After Mass, we will have a reception in the Valentin Hall kitchen with light refreshments. That Monday, August 10, the contractors will begin to install the new flooring, both the tile in the sanctuary and the carpet in the aisle and foyer. The flooring may not be finished by the end of the week, but will be finished enough so that we can have Mass in the church the weekend of August 15-16. If necessary, they will finish the floor work the following week. During those two weeks (Aug. 3-7 and Aug. 10-14) we will have our daily Confessions and 12:05 pm Masses at Holy Ghost. We thank Fr. Jaison and our brothers and sisters at Holy Ghost for their kindness, generosity, and hospitality!
Once we finish the flooring, then we will continue the campaign work on the sound system, lighting, sacristies, appointments and pew repair.
We did receive three more gifts to the campaign, and would like to acknowledge them here:
• Ryan and Pamela Hooks, In Thanksgiving for their children and grandchildren
• Pat. D. Brown
• The LeBlanc Family, In Memory of Marcel and Patricia Leblanc
As I mentioned above, I'll be leaving for vacation this afternoon and will be out the next two weekends, returning for Masses the weekend of August 1-2. We will hit the ground running with the altar installation and flooring upon my return. Again, thank you all so much for your generosity during the campaign, and please keep me in your prayers over the next couple of weeks. You can be assured you will be in mine.
